WP Cerber Security 9.6.9

Hi folks,

You know how some things are just expected to work, quietly, reliably, in the background? We think security should be exactly like that. So, while we’re not unveiling a new gadget that’ll change the world, we’ve been meticulously tuning up WP Cerber, your trusted WordPress security tool, to make it even smarter and more robust in its latest update.

Please welcome WP Cerber 9.6.9.

This new release significantly boosts your site’s defenses. We’ve further hardened the .htaccess rules to better protect your uploads folder which is a favorite target for mischief. Plus, WP Cerber now supports RDAP, a modern way to fetch IP address information.

We’re also focused on giving you more control and a smoother experience. You can now create a custom message for folks who try to register with an email address you’ve restricted, offering helpful guidance instead of a blunt roadblock. And when it comes to login attempts using prohibited usernames, you’ve got new options: either silently deny access or block the source IP straight away. To top it off, the plugin upgrade process itself is now more seamless, ensuring you get these new goodies without a hitch.

Important changes

The behavior of the authenticate hook has been reverted to restore its functionality from versions prior to WP Cerber 9.6.6. Custom login workflows that rely on the previous behavior of this hook may require review and adjustment. For any plugin that needs to restrict user authentication, it is now recommended to use the wp_authenticate_user hook to ensure correct interaction and compatibility.
