WP Cerber's Return to Wordpress Plugin Repositories

There is no question that WP Cerber is one, if not THE, best security solutions for WordPress installations. I’ve used it for years on my client’s sites and always felt confident that the plugin always performed excellently in keeping the sites protected.

For that reason it is hard to understand why the developers have made a deliberate decision to delay in perpetuity the return of WP Cerber to the official WordPress plugin repositories.

Perhaps there are legal reasons and not technical ones to keep in this state. If so, the devs could possibly explain their logic in a blog post; and add either a timeline for an eventual return, or a final determination not to do so.

Hi Alan, thank you for your kind words and for trusting WP Cerber over the years. I truly appreciate it.

The current situation is not about delaying a return, but about choosing the right distribution model for a security product.

WP Cerber is fully maintained and continuously updated through our own repository, which ensures full control over the release process. This level of control is especially important for a security plugin, where timely updates must not depend on third-party platforms. It also enables us to deliver plugin translations in around 90 languages, keeping WP Cerber localized for our users worldwide.

At the same time, I’m open to maintaining a presence on wordpress.org. This is an ongoing process that depends on alignment on both sides, includes factors outside our control, and needs to meet our requirements for predictability and the ability to deliver updates without friction.

Because of that, I cannot provide a specific timeline. When I have meaningful updates, I’ll share them with the community. I’m always open to thoughtful questions or feedback.
